A selection of ten designs emerges from exploration and experimentation, each blending tradition with contemporary trends. Influenced by Heimtextil trends, European markets, and leading textile artists, the collection features a curated color palette ranging from earthy tones to modern hues, enhancing tactile and sensory appeal. Techniques like Dobby, Jacquard, Embroidery, Aari, and Cording add depth and texture. Sample pieces ensure seamless execution, with one standout design chosen for a prestigious fair in Italy, showcasing the perfect fusion of Hand Aari and emroidery as well as machine embroidery on an international stage.

A Journey Through the Design Process

| Project Brief
The Graduation project was a four-month project in
March 2024, guided by Mr. Shyamsunder Goenka.
This project aims to create unique home furnishing surfaces using various techniques for PROPOSTE 2024 at Villa Erba Cernobbio (Italy) by focusing on high-quality textile designs that reflect current trends. The approach will include conducting surveys and interviews with industry experts, designers, and guides to gather insights into what consumers want. Developing several prototypes featuring different design concepts and testing them for feasibility, look, and functionality will be the aim of this project. I will also analyse market trends and sales data to collect feedback from testing, which will help refine the designs further, resulting in a final collection of surfaces that highlight innovation, quality, and relevance in the market.

| Trend analysis

In today’s fast-paced digital world, there is a growing shift toward reconnecting with the tangible, as textiles offer a sensory link to heritage and craftsmanship. Amidst a culture of disposability and digital convenience, the revival of craft provides authenticity and a trusted provenance. This resurgence is evident in the renewed appreciation of natural fibers like hemp, jute, flax, and nettle for their durability and comfort. Tangible experiences, rooted in touch and materiality, foster a deeper connection to design, echoing the fundamental principles of dot, line, shape, and texture—the building blocks of all visual compositions. A recent collection embracing natural local fibers, hand-spun production, and dye-free processes highlights this movement, reflecting a consumer desire for sustainability, meaningful engagement, and a deeper connection to materials that shape our physical world.
