Crafting resilience in blue
| Fabric construction

Inspired by my first pet, Shambhu, the Blue Fighter Fish, this collection captures his vibrant energy, fluid movement, and delicate yet resilient nature. Through a multi-dimensional approach, I explored diverse surface manipulation techniques, intertwining intricate stitching, innovative weaving, and expressive dyeing to create fabrics that embody his essence. The textures, patterns, and feel of each piece reflect the rhythmic flow of water, the shimmer of metallic hues, and the graceful motion of Shambhu, bringing his dynamic spirit to life through textile artistry.

A Journey Through the Design Process

| Project Brief
The Fabric construction course was a four-week project in
July 2022, guided by Mr. Arnab Senapati.
This project will focus on developing diverse fabric surfaces by integrating a variety of surface manipulation techniques, including stitching, weaving, and dyeing. Inspired by Shambhu, the Blue Fighter Fish, the collection will translate his vibrant colors, fluid movement, and delicate yet powerful presence into textiles that evoke a sense of rhythm and motion. The design process will remain true to key themes of vibrancy, fluidity, movement, rhythm, and metallic accents, ensuring that the fabrics not only capture the visual aesthetics of Shambhu but also evoke the sensory experience of his world.

Weaving with random color rhythm and dent gaps which resembles the delicate fins.

Stitching curvy lines over Ombre dyed viscose fabric to resemble the fins of a fish.

Stitching together the threads of a satin ribbon and a layer of mesh fabric on each side.

I Set up a loom with a particular warp rhythm to experiment with different material yarns which resembles the elements of taken inspiration.
