Remembering the forgotten

Cherishing memories

In a world increasingly drawn to minimalism, there is a growing appreciation for the sentimental and the traditional—a shift toward valuing not just simplicity, but also the stories and memories embedded in objects. The past few years have encouraged deep reflection, leading many to preserve cherished antiques and heirlooms as a way of staying connected to their roots. This project embraces that evolving perspective, where minimalism is redefined not by the absence of objects but by the presence of meaningful, timeless pieces. The final space reflects this philosophy, featuring a warm, earthy palette with madder red, indigo blue, muted olive green, and mint blue accents, complemented by wooden furniture, traditional carpets, rustic vintage frames, and textured floral elements—creating an atmosphere of comfort, nostalgia, and quiet elegance.

A Journey Through the Design Process

| Project Brief

The Colour Material Finish course was a two-week project in

March 2023, guided by Mr. Rajdeep Sarkar.

In our fast changing society, everyone has become interested in minimalism due to its benefits, which include minimising resource usage, emphasising quality over quantity, and placing a higher value on experiences than material goods. Yet, as society has settled into a routine and common way of life, people have started to pay attention to and appreciate even the most insignificant aspects of their existence, whether they be emotional or material. Throughout the outbreak, many people started to reflect on their previous years in an effort to preserve their memories through photos and possibly some antiques that held the most personal value for them. They have held onto these priceless, complicated, conventional antique goods that are highly prized in our reduced world. So, the younger generation is more aware of the value of being attached, cherishing memories even more, and developing their own perspective on minimalism.

| The space : Living room

The living room is a place where a group of people can talk, share memories, and bond with one another. Recently, minimalism has made this interactive space a little monotonous. As a result, the objective is to remember the forgotten in this space and start new but meaningful conversations to bring people together.
